Let your leftover Christmas ham escape to the tropics with this awesome calzone recipe!
Baked spiral ham is a Christmas tradition for our family. Every year, I look forward to the sweet slices of brown sugar glazed ham – and, even more so, the leftovers. Leftover ham is perfect for omelets, frittatas, sandwiches, homemade pizza and so much more.
It’s also awesome for an easy homemade Hawaiian Calzone.
Now, don’t let the total time on this recipe fool you. It takes awhile because I like to make it on a pizza stone, which gives it an amazing, crunchy crust. Because pizza stones have to be heated for 30 minutes (don’t worry – you can totally do this while preheating the oven), it looks like this takes a long time to make. It totally doesn’t. The actual cooking time is 15-20 minutes. Add in the 10 minutes prep and 5 minutes rest time and you have a simple meal that repurposes leftovers in an ingenious new way in about 30 minutes. Easy peasy.
You start with a few simple ingredients – a Pillsbury Pizza Crust, mozzarella cheese, ricotta cheese, Italian seasonings, ham and pineapple.
So, unroll that dough. Literally – open the can, unroll the dough onto a cornmeal dusted pizza peel or other surface. Be generous with the cornmeal. Then spread ricotta on half of the crust. Sprinkle with Italian seasonings, ham and pineapple. Finish with mozzarella.
Then just seal it up into a rectangle and slide it onto that hot baking stone.
Bake it up … and then before you know it, you have this amazing calzone –it serves four and is awesome with a big green salad.
