This vintage springtime fave makes a fun comeback with fresh twists that make it all that and more.
I have always been intimidated by this dessert with its flashy colors and fancy geometric shapes. It’s one of those desserts that I could never figure out how it was actually made and decided to leave it to someone else to tackle it.
But after looking into it a little bit more, come to find out, it isn’t really all that hard. This Broken Glass Torte dessert comes together easily and has the showstopper affect on all who eat it.
Usually this dessert has a graham cracker crust but we’re going to shake things up with a crust made from Frosted Toast Crunch cereal crumbs and a little butter.
Just press the crumb mixture in the bottom of a springform pan and chill it.
The great part about this dessert is that you can use any color and any flavor of gelatin that you want inside. I opted for Easter colors with yellow pineapple, purple grape, and pink strawberry-banana flavored gelatin. You could easily adapt this for any holiday, whether it be the Fourth of July, Halloween, or Christmas.
Next, you’re going to make the creamy mixture that holds your beautiful gelatin cubes. I used some whipped topping combined with some Yoplait yogurt to add more flavor and creaminess. When your gelatin is set, gently fold in the gelatin cubes and pour it on top of your crust.
Once your dessert has chilled, cut a slice and let the magic begin. Each piece is like a snowflake with its own unique design and pattern.
The colors remind me of the stained glass windows I used to stare at in church. Of course while listening to the speakers…
