Has anyone made them using the tiny muffin tins? I think it would be nice to have a sixe where you could pop the whole thing in your mouth instead of trying to be delicate while you bite into it.

We should all stop calling things something that they are not. This is a hot appetizer. Not a cupcake.

I liked these. Having tortilla chips in them seemed useless. They became soft while baking them and don’t add any flavor so next time I would skip this step. Corn would be a switcheroo. Thanks for a fun recipe! I’ll make them again.

I made a gluten free version of these by trimming corn tortillas into the square wonton shape and spraying them with Pam before putting them in the cupcake tin, this prevents the tortilla from breaking. Really good recipe! Thanks for the go to game day treat.

The cost of living is higher in Florida so i can’t give a correct estimate. The ingredients alone should be pretty affordable.

my teacher wanted the class to look up healthy quick snacks for the class and i saw this and i was thinking about making these in my cooking class at school but how much would all this cost on average…..

9/24/2012 11:19 AM

You could make them the night before and then reheat them the next day. It will probably take as long to reheat as to just cook them so if I were you I would assemble them the night before and then cook them the next day. I’m not sure exactly how long it would take to reheat them. I would think about 8-10 minutes at 350. You could put foil over the top to make sure the wonton wrappers don’t burn.

These sound great and I would like to make them for an upcoming party but if i make them the night before how long should I reheat them for and will the wonton wrapper then be burned?

Oh, these are great! I love the convenience of the cupcake pans and I have people who eat at different times and have different tastes so I made chicken and beef and pulled pork all in an afternoon, baked them up and froze them… My adult kids, my partner, my Dad, my granddaughter all love them… I get wonton wrapper (and eggroll wrappers – the larger ones) in my grocery vege section next to the Marie’s (cold) Salad dressings…

I also tried several of my own variations of the lasagna cupcakes. I freeze them and then cook to order. So one pan can have up to 12 different cupcakes. This is PERFECT when you have picky eaters!

Wal Mart carries won ton wrappers, so I’m sure every grocery store does now. I mean, I live in Wichita, KS, and our Wal Mart stocks them. Just ask a stocker, they know where everything is!

Another alternative is to use wonton wrappers and fill with the cooked and seasoned ground meat. Fold over like a wonton and deep fry. Serve with guacamole, salsa and sour cream. Fun appetizer.

To all my extended family and friends: This is a recipe to kill (well – be agressive about!) all who want Tacos around here. The fact that you may make them in advance, and freeze until needed – is a glorious bit of news. I have written a full Comment upon the other page of this recipe. I do find that checking upon the existence of a Blog page is well worth while. The Blogs post incredible photos that will give information that will clear any questions you have with the written recipe. Enjoy!

Absolutely! You can freeze them and reheat them in the oven or make them the night before and regret right before the party.

Could these be made up ahead of time like the night before the party and then warmed in the oven prior to party?

I made these last night with vegetarian meat crumbles instead of the beef and KEPT the beans (come on guys!). I also added cilantro into the cupcakes as well as a topping along with onions, sour cream, cheddar and salsa. Everyone I invited ove LOVED them! I dont think Ill be going back to regular tacos again. Thank you for the idea!!

so i’m thinking instead of wonton paper you can just use like…egg roll wrap. They sell it in asian stores…grocery stores. Its used to wrap egg rolls…thick enough..should hold. I’m gonna try it!

these were great!!! i omitted the beans cause i hate beans and everyone loved them at the cinco de mayo party!

For those who say they can’t find in grocery store —

1. Usually near fresh salad/mushroom dept.

2. Ask the grocery manager where they are stocked in there store,

3, Visit an Asian store

4. Happy Hunting

Mine were in my fresh produce section in the corner with the Asian products. They are refrigerated.

I couldn’t find the wonton wrappers at my grocery store, so I ended up using gyoza wrappers. They turned out ok, but I really don’t like the end result of the gyoza wrappers. Are the gyoza and wonton really different?

These turned out great! My family loved eating them. Next time I think I will try using the uncooked tortillas from the dairy case at our local store instead though. They will hopefully have more of that Taco Salad tortilla bowl effect this way.

@snurtle, corn tortillas might work but the wonton wrappers are so good.

@mlight547, Feel free to leave the beans out. It won’t do anything to the wrapper on the bottom. These are really versatile.

This is fabulous! Ran out about 10 minutes after finding your recipe to buy the ingredients and made them the moment I got home. New goal: wait until the rest of the family gets home so they can try them. I keep popping them in my mouth! :)

These look so good!

But instead of just using beans could you use a layer of meat there?

Or would that do something to the bottom part??
