Hold the onions and turn off the grill! These Mini Burger Cookies look like the real deal, but they’re actually a sweet, tiny,  fun dessert.

These adorable Mini Burger Cookies will surely have your kids doing a double take.

I spotted these Mini Burger Cookies over at Six Sisters’ Stuff and knew I had to try them out with my own family. As a rule of thumb with any treat that I have my kids help me with, I try to make sure I have all the ingredients ready to go and it has to be simple and fast because their attention spans are short.

Mini Hamburger Cookies Recipe

Start by laying out the vanilla wafers on a cookie sheet — these are going to be our hamburger buns. Next, add a grasshopper fudge cookie or “hamburger patty” on top. You can add a dot of frosting on the bottom wafer to make sure the cookie sticks to it if you want.

How to Assemble Mini Burger Cookies

For my tomato, ketchup and mustard I used Betty Crocker’s decorator frosting, which is already colored perfectly and is in an easy-to-use tube.

Use Frosting for Ketchup on Mini Burger Cookies

I made a ring of frosting as the tomato and a drizzle of yellow frosting as the mustard.

To make the “lettuce,” just add green food coloring to some coconut and shake it around in a plastic bag until it’s all green. Generously top your burgers with the green coconut. This part can be a little messy, hence the cookie sheet for easy clean up.

Use Coconut for the Lettuce

How cute are these?

Green Coconut is the Lettuce

I have to admit that sometimes “cute” food doesn’t always taste good, but these burgers were the bomb!

@Anonymous about the ‘lettuce’ –> if you’re not into coconut you could try green fruit leather or a green fruit roll-up; either cut it up in small strips (so it looks shredded) or cut a shape similar to a lettuce leaf. This is what i do for those who don’t like coconut when i make cupcake burgers (instead of cookies)

If you do t like the mint flavor you can use the fudge or chocolet covered Oreos

Ooo, I remember having these when I was younger. A classmate’s mother brought them in for a snack (with sesame seeds just like anonymous mentioned). I figured out the basics quickly and started making them myself. Never thought of using coconut!

(@Anonymous with sesame seed comment, I’ve been wondering for YEARS on how they were put on, thanks!)

I have always made them with peppermint patties. We also painted the tops with a little water and sprinkled some sesame seeds.

For those who do like mint, my mom used to do this with mini peppermint patties

@Anonymous who is wondering about a mint-less option for the grasshopper cookie — maybe a fudge striped cookie (used upside-down) instead? Or maybe a store brand may have a good plain chocolate cookie option.

@Anonymous with the load time comment: Sorry! We hope this was just a slow internet day in your area! It seemed fine on our side but please let us know if it continues for you — we sure want you to get at the stuff and get cookin fast!

The mintyness (real word?) of the grasshopper cookie was a little too much for me. Anyone know of any similarly shaped cookies that don’t have that are straight chocolate flavor?
